About Vermio Mountains National Park

Located in northern Greece, the Vermio Mountains National Park spans a mountainous region known for its dense forests, alpine meadows, and deep gorges. The park's geography includes peaks rising over 2,000 meters, including Mount Vermio itself, which provides dramatic elevation changes and commanding views of the surrounding landscape. Forest ecosystems are dominated by beeches, firs, and pines, supporting a variety of wildlife including roe deer, wild boar, foxes, and numerous bird species such as eagles and woodpeckers. Historically, the area has been significant for both its natural resources and cultural heritage, with evidence of ancient settlements and traditional mountain villages. The park draws outdoor visitors year-round, offering hiking and mountain biking in summer and skiing in winter with the popular nearby ski resorts of Seli and 3-5 Pigadia. Scenic landmarks include the historic Monastery of Agios Nikolaos at the park’s edge and the Polichnitos gorge, which features waterfalls and rich flora. The national park is a valuable destination for those seeking a blend of adventure, wildlife observation, and cultural exploration in a less commercialized mountain setting.
